A list of the haunted places in Indiana

Cry Baby Bridge-Supposedly where a baby was killed in a car accident. The story is that when the police arrived they didn't find the child and it was left eventually to die and it is said if you cross the bridge you can hear the baby cry.

Gruenwald Historic House-An old house lots of activity reported supposedly on full moons there is more ghostly activity reported.

Lindbergh Road-On this road there is a supposed haunted house it is said to have caught on fire some time ago with a family still in side I believe the story goes all the family escaped but one son whose body was supposedly never found and he is the one who haunts it. The activity is reported to be a typical haunting. I guess the house really run down, pieces of ceiling, floor and roof missing stuff like that.

Mounds State Park-The haunting steams from an old indian legend about a tribe of little people who inhabit the area. People report seeing what they beilieve are dwarves in the park.

Old Anderson High School-There was a fire and the older half of the school no longer stands. People have seen spirits and reported activity of things being thrown. In the basement of the gym a girl was supposedly raped and murdered and it is reported that people still hear her screams.

Circle Hill Cemetery-It is reported that people see tall hooded figures along with fairly normal activity.

Town Circle-The movie theatre building is said to be haunted by the spirit of a red bearded man. It is said that at midnight if you look atop the building you will see him pacing back and forth and if you listen you can hear him sob and cry and call for somebody. It is also said that if you sit to watch a movie in the building you can hear him sobbing it has even been reported that he has been seen inside the theatre.

Wings Haven Nature Preserve-Supposedly a coven of witches performed a ritual and realeased a demon. This so called demon is said to be contained in the stream and if you venture close the stream attempts to "make contact" with you. People report feeling strong emotions while in the area some even violent. Electrical problems and various other problems with peoples cars are often reported while they are parked in the public parking lot.

Sigma Phi Epsilon House Tri-State University-A young girl is said to have died here and supposedly haunts the house.

The Attica Hotel-The site was formerly home to the two-story Revere House which burned in 1844. It was rebuilt the following year and named The Attica Hotel. It survived a tornado which destroyed only the north wall, and another fire a few years later destroying the entire north wing. Later a chambermaid was murdered while she was cleaning a room and her murderer was never found. People report footsteps, noises, being touched or nudged. It's now a reastaurant that only serves evening meals.

AULFORDSVILLE

High School Gym-Reported sounds of children playing and people wondering around can supposedly be heard oustide the gym at around one in the morning

Haunted House-Just outside the town sits a house supposedly haunted by violent spirits as with many hauntings around this state the story goes a man killed his entire family and just two days later was found strangled supposedly by the spirits of his family. Cold spots are reported along with a vast temperature difference in one room.

AUSTIN

Austin High School-Reportedly in the 80's a spanish teacher was killed in a car accident and is said to haunt the school. Staff members have reoprted seeing her late at night and apparently Beatles music seems to draw her out.

AVON

Haunted Bridge-This old railway trestle which spans White Lick Creek is said to be haunted by the ghost of one of the many irish workers who built the bridge. The story goes that while working on the bridge one day a wooden platform collapsed dumping the worker into the wet cement of the pylon they were building and he slowly sank into the pylon. Workers stated they could hear him pounding on the wooden sides of the pylon as he slowly drown it was said there was no way to save him. The construction was delayed only a few hours so the company could decide what to do but they decided that the pylon would not be torn down in order to find the body. Though protests from some superstisious workers arose the work quickly resumed. Shortly after the bridge was finished residents and railway workers reported hearing what sounded like a man screaming and pounding from inside the pylon when near the bridge. Since the bridge has been torn down people have reported seeing the aparition of a man wandering around and appearing to flag down oncoming trains.

BARBEE LAKE

The Barbee Hotel- Known as a High Class Hotel in the time of Al Capone. He was a frequent guest in the hotel often having all the guests cleared out so he could stay in seclusion. Everytime he stayed in room 301 in the back of the hotel. Employees have reported smelling cigar smoke while cleaning the room. The bartender has reported numerous times that she has seen an old man sitting at a booth and that when she goes to get someone he has vanished. Many reports of hearing foots steps on the stairs in the halls above the dining area are heard often. Many pictures taken in the hotel mainly on the stairs have "orbs" or other light anomolies. It is said that if you drive by the area of the hotel late at night you can see faint lights reportedly from the room Rita Hayworth stayed in.

BARGERSVILLE

Podunk- It is a small town right outside of Bargersville. It is said to be very scary and freaky by the local teens who frequent it often. It is said that there is a bridge that if you drive onto it stop, turn off the car, lights, radio, and do not talk that you will see a baby crawl across the road. It is said sometimes that you can hear it crying and laughing.

BARTONIA

The Headless Man-It is said that if you go on the Greenville Pike, Turn right at the stop sign, turn left at the first gravel road, go past the bridge turn around, go over the bridge. Once you get over the bridge wait a moment and then turn around again, drive slowly but not too slowly and you will see a man on a horse with no head the further from the bridge you get the closer he seems to get, soon after he disappears. (if you ask me this is a lot of work just to see some headless guy)

BASS LAKE

Bass Lake Cemetery- It is said that in this cemetery there is a certain grave that if visited at night is surronded by tall grass, which is green during the day, but at night is blood red and if you break a piece off it is red all the way through. It is also said that if you hold a lighter under the picture of the man on the gravestone his face changes into that of the devil's, beard, horns and all. To some he even laughs but it does not work with a flashlight and it does not do this during the day. There have also been reports of an almost werewolf like creature roaming the cemetery and charging cars.

Haunted Hospital- All that remains of the hospital is the basement. It sits a little ways back in the woods next to a Romanian hotel. Human sounds noises even voices have been heard around the area of the hospital. There have been numerous reports of an aparition of a man standing near the furnace, which to my knowledge still stands. The man is said to be the janitor still protecting the hospital.

BATESVILLE

St. Louis Cemetery- It is said that once and Indian woman living in the area was believed to be a witch. One day the townspeople began chasing her on horseback and once they caught up with her in the cemetery they buried her alive. Her grave is said to have a stone door with iron bars surrounding it and is said to still be standing.

BATTLEFIELD

The Battlefield Memorial- In the 1800's a terrible battle was fought on this ground. It is said that at night, right after dark, when you are close to the creek you can hear battle cries and you can see what looks like human forms running around the woods, and it is said that no matter how tired or exhausted you are you cannot fall asleep in this area.

BELLMORE

Old Bellmore Schoolhouse- It is now in ruins all that reamain are outhouses, sidewalks and a partial sign which shows the date of the school, and a trailer now sits on this property. Walking on to the grounds of the ruins extreme changes in temperature have been reported. A young boy was said to be killed and placed in one of the furnaces, it is said that people have heard him playing and screaming in the are that was the boiler room. It is said if you visit this site at night rocks and bricks will fly through the air at you.

BLOOMINGTON

Binford Elementary School- At one time was a middle school and it is said that 3 students murdered a janitor in the janitors closet. It is said that he still haunts the school as a man wearing a dark coat roaming the halls. Also a man has said to have been seen in the auditorium wearing a black cloak after dark.

Indiana University Career Center-It is said that years ago a doctor performed illegal abortions in what is now the career center and that the spirits of the aborted children now haunt the building

I.U. Folklore office-Supposedly haunted by a former chairman

I.U. Indiana Memorial Union-Human ghosts(supposedly from suicides over the years) and the ghost of a dog have been seen here.

I.U. Lily Library-Supposedly haunted although no stories or legends can be found or confirmed

I.U. Reed Hall- It is said that one night a former medical student went crazy murdered his girlfriend and hid her body in one of the tunnels in the basement. Later he confessed to the police and led them to her body. Her ghost is said to haunt the hall she has been seen in numerous places including hallways, her old room and the room she was murdered in and other places as well. She is said to be wearing a bloody night gown and have long black hair.

Paris Dunning House- The house was part of the underground railroad helping slave escape to freedom. It has been reported that doors open and close, papers can be heard shuffling, and books have been said to fall off their shelves. 608 W. Third

Porticos- It was once a restaurant. People have reported seeing the face of a young girl in the bathroom mirror and have claimed to hear children running around and playing upstairs.

Read Dorm 6th Floor- Claimed to be haunted by a ghost supposedly named Paula it was said she was stressed and overworked and she threw herself down the stairs to her death. It is said that late on the night of December 12th you can hear her screams as she throws herself to her death again.

Stepp Family Cemetary- Now located in the Hoosier National Forest. It is said that two brothers fought and killed each other over their family inheritance and are buried in the cemetary, also a woman is said to be seen in the cemetary sitting on a stump humming it is said that she had a baby that died and she still sits in the cemetary humming to her child. Alot of the things have been reported in this are the apparition of the woman, the sound of humming, car engines dying, other apparitions and so on.

BLUFFTON

Red Bridge Childrens' Playground- It is said that at the turn of the century the apostolic church had a playground for the children run by an old man. All the children loved him but for the adults it was a different story. One day his body was found in the Wabash River near the red bridge, he had been brutally murdered. It is said that if you go to the bridge and lie down on it you can hear children running and playing it is even said that you can hear someone pounding on the underside of the bridge.

The Rittenhouse-Now a restaurant but was at one time a morgue and funeral home. Supposed reports of apparitions, and mysterious happenings. Some people even say you can still smell the dead.

BOBTOWN

The Coffin-The story goes that in the 60's a police officer busted a party out on an old deserted gravel road. Apparently the teenagers killed him and placed his body in the trunk of a hollow tree it is said that the tree then grew around him becoming his "coffin". It is said that if you drive down this road at night you may see his eyes staring at you from his "coffin" and that somehow the trees on this road block all external light so the only light you will see on this road is your own headlights.
